2010 Legacy Trail, Lexington, Kentucky

Picture
The original trail
A new bike/walk trail has been created from downtown Lexington to Kentucky Horse Park, going through both the city, and the rolling country side.

Presently 9 miles are completed and 3 more will be built. 10 artists have painted tapis on the black top, and 15 artists have created blazes (tall flags) all with a narrative about Kentucky.

Steene's piece represents the creation of the landscape/limestone, and she choose to depict, in simple forms, the shallow tropical sea it once was, and the fossils that are commonly found in the in the Kentucky limestone. The tapis is approx 125 square feet, using Street Bond paint", titled Once It Was the Sea.
